Your “enemies” won’t win.

I’m a big fan of underdog stories. I love seeing the little guy win. The bigger the opposition, the better. It doesn’t matter if it’s a movie, a sports team, or someone like you and me. I want to see the little guy win. 

Do you know what the best part of the story is? It’s not the victory in the end; it’s the opposition and setbacks along the way. 

We live in a world where everything is supposed to be easy. We can buy our way to victory and fast-track success. But the reality is that we need the opposition. Opposition pushes us to learn new things. Opposition strengthens us at every step. Opposition enables our faith. Scripture speaks to this constantly; it just calls it something else: “enemies.”

What’s remarkable about our God is that He doesn’t give us everything on a silver platter. Nothing worthwhile ever comes easy. He shows us this truth over and over again throughout His written Word, and He teaches us this personally in our lives.

Every movie underdog goes through training and refinement. They rely on help from others and get victory in the end.

Sports teams don’t just show up and win championships. They train and fight to put themselves in a position for a chance at a title.

Everyday people aren’t just handed success; they need to go through their own journey of trying, failing, and learning on repeat. Until they finally make the breakthrough.

Luke Skywalker had to endure grueling training, lose a hand, and make amends with his father before he took down the Emperor.

The 1980 Men’s US Hockey team got trounced by the Soviets in a 10-3 loss two weeks before they pulled off their miracle gold medal win against that very same team.

You are living your own story, and there are guaranteed to be “enemies” in front of you, but your story isn’t finished. Victory is coming soon.

God wants you to be successful and tells you over and over again that “enemies” will cross your path. He also promises that your “enemies” will not succeed. As you trust Him and stay connected to Him through all the ups and downs, He will preserve you. He promises that your “enemies” won’t win.

Know Him

When evil people come to devour me, when my enemies and foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. 

— Psalm 27:2 (NLT) 

Understand Yourself

There is a 100% guarantee that “enemies” will stand before you. How do you typically respond to this direct opposition? 

Do His Work

Name the “enemies” in your path right now. They may be actual people, an unfavorable circumstance, or the fears you have. 

As you name these “enemies”, ask God to cause them to stumble and fall. 

Reach out to at least one person you trust and ask them to pray with you. Pray together for God to give you strength as He causes your “enemies” to fall.
