Same ______. Different Day.
Same . Different Day.
I enjoy a good burrito, so I naturally enjoy the company of a good burrito maker. Down the street from my house is a great spot for lunch, and they make the burritos right in front of you. I always make sure to chat with the person making my burrito. I want them to feel like a human, not just an assembly-line worker for entitled burrito consumers.
This week, I was chatting with a new friend, and we were discussing how complaining about our days does no good for anyone. He lifted his arm and showed me a tattoo right above his elbow. It read: SS.DD.
“Same ‘sheez,’ different day,” my new friend said to me as he winked. “You just gotta take it as it comes.”
To be honest, he used a different word than “sheez,” but I’m sure you guessed that. This saying is one we’ve all heard and can nod along to. It’s part of life; we all have junk to deal with, and the only way to keep our sanity is to shrug it off and keep moving.
I went and sat in my usual seat at the burrito shop and stared out the window, thinking about how this age-old saying could be redeemed. There had to be a better way to look at things. Then it hit me.
“Same SAVIOR. Different Day.”
My life has not been easy, and I can guess neither has yours. But the one thing that has remained constant in every situation is my Savior.
I decided many years ago to entrust my life to Jesus Christ, and it’s never been the same since.
I’ve been crushed by debt, pushed out of amazing careers, faced major health setbacks, and watched my loved ones suffer. I’ve also experienced many upswings: financial freedom, new jobs, seasons of health, and joyful celebrations with others. Today, I realize that the only constant in life is my Savior.
We will encounter seasons we love and seasons we hate, but we need not be apathetic as we navigate this lifetime. We need to be thankful for a God who is willing to walk with us and be the constant we so desperately need in an unpredictable world.
Every day, we get to decide how to look at our situation. How will you fill in the blank? “Same . Different Day.”
Know Him
“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
